The Key is a love story that conveys the tale of Dak and Kini, who become college sweethearts while they are students at Michigan State University.
Amidst the 1970's transitions of sexual freedoms, drug indulgence, and women's rights, these two young people find themselves falling in love despite the fact that their families of origin have very different backgrounds.
Their tender loves is entwined within the boundaries of a Big Ten University and the dorm in which they live.
It is not until their college graduation quickly approaches that Dak and Kini decide to spend the winter holidays at both of their family homes. Strong messages that challenge the longevity of Dak and Kini's relationship are sent by Kini's parents unbeknownst to Dak.
Upon return to college, Kini unexpectedly terminates their intense relationship without rhyme or reason, breaking Dak's heart.
Life moves on and chronicles Kini's marriage to someone else and the subsequent injustices that are imparted upon both Kini and her husband in the name of religion.
The tale develops into a strong internal conflict and a withheld unresolved guilt experienced by Kini, following a rock concert attended by she and her husband.
