The Key

About Cindi Rosner Kelly

Cindi Rosner Kelly began her musical training at the age of 4 studying piano. Her talents blossomed over the years to include her pursuit and mastery of the clarinet. Her passion, love and participation in the theatre during these developmental years led to Ms. Rosner Kelly landing character roles on a consistent basis in the community and within her respective schools. Although, her passion was to become an actress, Ms Rosner Kelly’s musical talents seemed to take the lead resulting in her obtaining degrees in both Music Education and Music Therapy from Michigan State University. She then obtained her graduate degree from the University of Michigan.

During her early years at MSU, the Composition Department attempted to recruit Ms. Rosner Kelly to change her major as they felt that her talents were worth developing. She humbly accepted the compliment, continued to compose independently, but refrained from accepting their offer as Ms. Rosner Kelly could not fathom how she would make a living with only composition skills, despite her passion and love of writing music. As is reflected in the 1970's setting of THE KEY, women were just coming into the workforce and were not widely accepted in many fields. Women composers were few and far between at that time.

Ms. Rosner Kelly has led a dual career over these years functioning by day as a clinical psychotherapist and by night as a musician (composer, performer, and teacher) She has written a body of work for flute, clarinet, and piano that was performed regularly by her family trio (THE ROSNER TRIO) as well as countless arrangements and solo material for the piano.

Throughout these years, Ms. Rosner Kelly remained involved in the theatre, playing in Pit Orchestras and incorporating her clinical insights in a way that has allowed her to formulate just what captures an audience both in terms of the music and the story line. Here we are at a stage of life that has fostered the explosion of Ms. Rosner Kelly’s latent and suppressed composition talents with the creation of THE KEY. Her character development reflects the feelings and the passions of each one of her characters as she successfully expresses both through the text and the music. Her ability to help the audience really feel the joys and sorrows of love and loss through the use of humor and pain, allow one to identify with their own interpersonal histories, their children’s journey’s, and those fantasies that each of us harbor as part of life. Ms Rosner Kelly’s style intertwines both fact and fiction enabling excitement and suspense to be experienced by each member of the audience.

The incorporation of her own life experiences includes lessons of life within each work that somehow make the show not only fun and pleasurable, but an opportunity for each person to walk away with something to ponder.....a new value or insight that impacts our world. In tandem with THE KEY, Ms. Rosner Kelly is in the process of completing a subsequent musical for families and children. The creative talent, personable style and unending drive of Ms. Rosner Kelly has been evidenced in each endeavor that she has successfully pursued throughout her life. Birthing a musical allows the audience to find those precious Keys that we all have locked within our souls.
